About this event
General Aviation:
Birth, Growth, Peakage, Shrinkage and Today
With over 500,000 pilots, the U.S. has evolved to have the largest free skies in the world. Those who fly seldom stop to think just how unique we are. But our "freedom to fly" comes as the inheritance of the efforts of many great names, many of whom have been recipients of the Aero Club's annual Godfrey L. Cabot Award.
Aero Club of New England Member and Director John Garabedian will host the upcoming ACONE Icebreaker event, Wednesday, January 15th from 6PM - 8:30PM at The Chateau Restaurant, 195 School Street, Waltham. The presentation, titled "General Aviation: Birth, Growth, Peakage, Shrinkage and Today" will cover the evolution of GA, from the early days (2,000 years ago!) to today.
Garabedian has been a licensed pilot for 42 years, and serves as President of the Cape Area Pilot's Association. He has collected and restored over 2 dozen aircraft, including a 1939 Piper J4-A pictured below, purchased new at the factory in Lock Haven, PA by Laurence G. Hanscom before his tragic death in 1940 at an airshow in Saugus.
